Welcome to the parentsactive website — our site aims to help parents/carers of disabled children living in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. We hope you find our website useful and easy to navigate.
Who are we?
parentsactive was established in 2001 within Hammersmith & Fulham Mencap to support families of disabled children resident in the borough. We endeavour to keep parents informed through coffee mornings, social events, our website, offering training, workshops and a newsletter. We aim to improve services for families of disabled children through active involvement and meetings with representatives from the Council and other relevant organisations. Our mission is to provide a support network for parents to gain and share information, make new friends and most importantly realise that they are not alone.
We have a membership of more than 200 parents
parentsactive is coordinated by two officers, the Parent/Carer Advocate and the part time parentsactive Coordinator. The officers are supported by a steering committee of volunteer parents, who help planactivities and events
What do we do?
parentsactive aims to support families of disabled children by:
- Holding forums every week (during term time) at the Masbro children’s centre. We invite guest speakers from relevant organisations to speak to parents about their services.
- We hold regular meetings and consultation events
- We have established a parent’s forum with the grant from Aiming High for Disabled children (see link)
- We publish newsletters
- Offer training programmesfor parents
- Organise Fun Days and conferences relevant to disabled children and their families
- Interact with parents through our e-forum
- We have successfully campaigned for the Every Disabled Child Matters charter which was signed by Hammersmith and Fulham in March 2009
